Update on Samuel Deguara

January 10th, 2008 · No Comments

Samuel Deguara is one of the most interesting prospects in Europe only by considering his size. The 1991 born and 2m23 tall Maltese kid is actually member of Benetton Treviso and he was actually member of their U19 squad that played the tournament in Rome this weekend.

Thanks to the Malta Independant Online, we got some news about him playing in Rome. I was already wondering if he would be with the team, but I did not check all the boxscores, which has been an error. Samuel Deguara played only the first because of a flu.

Deguara played 26 minutes in that first game against Zemun and scored one basket, grabbed 4 rebounds and blocked 3 shots. Here is what his coach Fabio Corbani had to say about Deguara’s tournament:

He was very active and incisive both in attack and in defence. After his initial difficulties, this was a victory for all of us, seeing that his sacrifices in the past months are now bearing the desired fruit. It was a pity that the flu did not allow him to take part except in those 26 minutes of the first match.

Considering that Deguara will only turn 17 this year, he was two years younger than most of his opponents. We will follow closely his development in the future with the Benetton youth sections.
