Baltic Sea Cup notes

January 12th, 2009 · No Comments

From the 3rd to the 5th January, the Baltic See Cup for U18 and U16 National Teams has been played in Tallinn, Estonia. This traditional tournament sees the Youth teams from Finland, Sweden, Latvia and Estonia face each other. Let’s have a quick look at the results.

In the U18 category, the tournament has been won by Finland as reports Hippo.

The Finnish team is pretty guard-oriented. Honka Playboys’ guard trio of Sasu Salin, Antto Nikkarinen and Villematti Kopio handled most of the scoring load and ’92 born Kopio was voted the MVP of the tournament. Kopio was the leading scorer of Finland’s U16 National Team last summer. He is still physically very raw, but he has a winner’s attitude and the skills to become a lethal scorer one day.

The second place of the tournament was for Sweden led by Andreas Person and Christopher Czerapovich. Both of them were also present in Mannheim in 2008 during the Albert-Schweitzer Tournament and should be the leaders of the Swedish team during the summer youth championships.

Latvia finished third of the tournament behind the scoring efforts of Janis Antrops and Mareks Majeris while Estonia finished last.

The U16 tournament has been won by Latvia.
