Per Günther and Elias Harris: youngsters of the year

The German 2nd and 3rd leagues are featuring some very interesting young players. The BBL Bundesliga is dominated by foreigners, so a lot of youth players chose to player for a second or third division team in order to get some playing time and gain experience. Now, the league elected their most rewarding youngsters and here are the results.

Per Günther, the PG of Phoenix Hagen got the award for the 2nd League ProA. The 1988 born 1m84 tall youngster averaged 14.3 ppg 2.4apg and 0.9spg this season and was often used as first scoring option of his team. The younger brother of Philip Günther should join a Bundesliga team next season and see some minutes as back up point guard. Günther has nice speed and can also score from around the arc. He leads a team in a very mature way for his young age and can be a big addition in defense.

In the ProB (third division), the award goes to the very promising forward Elias Harris. The highly athletic kid from Speyer is considered as one of the biggest prospects in Germany right now. 20.5ppg and 8.7rpg are the figures that are outlining his great talent. Harris, who is a Match-up nightmare in this division because he is too quick for the big guys and too athletic for the wings. Harris will normally stay another season with Speyer to get his high school degree and then move to the NCAA in 2009.
