Xmas Tournament Kortrijk 2014: Day 3

After following the U19 Tournament during two days, I decided to use my last day in Kortrijk not only to fill up my home cellar with some local Omer and have a nice lunch but also to check out the semi-finals of the U16 tournament that has been played in a different gym. And the least I can say is that it was worth doing the short trip to Deerlijk.

The 2nd day of the Xmas Tournament was marked by the direct elimination games in the Coca Cola U19 Invitational. The quarter finals were held in the morning while the evening session were based around the semi-finals of the event.

Xmas Tournament Kortrijk 2014: Day 1

After staying overnight in Oostende, I took the short drive to Kortrijk for my first ever Xmas Tournament. This tournament is growing to one of the biggest events in Europe with about 100 teams involved in different youth categories. The main competition is the U19 Coca-Cola Invitational with 12 teams. The “Lange Munte” is a great location with two large courts and good crowd to support the young players. Let’s see what happened during the first day of the tournament.

Ponitka and Akyazili playing against each other in Oostende

My trip to Belgium started with a Scooore League game in Oostende where the locals played against Antwerp. The main goal of this first part of the trip was to see the Polish prospect Mateusz Ponitka but in the end, he was not the guy who impressed me the most of the youngsters on the court.

Adin Vrabac growing into a new role in Trier

It was a quite surprising move when it has been announced that one of the best prospects from Bosnia would move to Germany. In fact, the 1994 born Adin Vrabac decided to leave OKK Spars to play for TBB Trier last summer and signed a four years contract with the German Bundesliga team. Let’s see how the U20 European Championship winner of Division B managed his first months in Germany.

German NBBL prospects with Bayern and Brose

Last weekend, there has been the game at the top of the NBBL Division Southeast between Bayern Munich and Breitengüssbach, the farm team of the Brose Baskets. This matchup featured some of the most interesting German prospects like Richard Freudenberg, Andreas Obst or Leon Kratzer. Nikola Jokic leads the Mega Vizura talent squad

Mega Vizura is more than ever the place to watch some of the most promising players in Europe. The club is originally based in Zemun but is playing now in Sremska Mitrovica because of ABA regulations. After Vasilije Micic and Nemanja Dangubic have been drafted last summer and left the club, it is about time to check the progress made by their third draftee from 2014, big guy Nikola Jokic. Additionally, we took a look at some of their other prospects.
