NBBL Top4: Final Review (Part 1)
June 3rd, 2008 at 9:06 pm by Christophe
After a sweaty weekend in Langen, I am back home now and give you a detailed report about the Final event of the German U19 League. The four teams that qualified for the Final phase were already present last season with the exception of ALBA Berlin who reached the final phase instead of Phoenix Hagen. So we saw a Final between the old and new Champion Team Urspring while TSV Breitengüssbach defeated Bonn-Rhöndorf for the third place.
Today’s picks (live from Frankfurt/Langen/NBBL Top4)
May 31st, 2008 at 10:34 pm by Christophe
Here are the first impressions from the semi-finals day of the NBBL Top4 in Langen.
- ALBA Berlin defeated Breitengüssbach in a relatively poor semi-final behind the nice scoring effort of Thomas Schoeps
- The second semi-final has been won like last year by Team Urspring. The guys from Southern Germany started with an incredible 16-2 run which they managed until the end of the game
- The tropical weather in Langen made a really heavy atmosphere in the gym. Extremely high humidity and temperatures of more than 30 degrees Celsius impacted the games.
- Maurice Stuckey came up with the most impressive performance of the semi-finals. One day after his 18th birthday, Stuckey hit 8 three pointers to score 28pts, grabbed 9 rebounds and stole 4 balls.
- The awards of the NBBL season were for Christian Standhardinger (MVP), Mathias Perl (Best defender) and Kevin Bright (Best youngster, born in 1992 or before)
- Bonn had to play without Sascha Wahlbröhl because he was not ready after his injury. For Urpsring, Thierno Agne had his comeback after a long pause.
- Michigan recruit Robin Benzing was also in the gym. He controlled the tickets of the spectators…
Kaloyan Ivanov update
May 30th, 2008 at 6:54 pm by Christophe
The name of Kaloyan Ivanov bounced into the NBA Draft process last year when the Bulgarian PF declared himself to the Early Entrants list before retiring his name afterwards. This season where he is automatically eligible, we did not hear a lot about him so far, so that I decided to check what he is doing and if he can still be considered as a prospect.

With the Reebok Eurocamp starting off in just 10 days, I will give an update on those players that did not get invited or won’t be present in Treviso for several reasons. I will start with the German PF Tim Ohlbrecht.

German prospects on the move
May 15th, 2008 at 7:56 pm by Christophe
The NCAA is still a very popular destination for some of Germany’s best prospects. And despite some problems with the NCAA regularization last year (you surely remember the case of Lucca Staiger and Fabian Böke who got suspended for one season), there is still a number of players that want to join the College league.

Nike International Junior Tournament (Part 4)
May 8th, 2008 at 9:02 pm by Christophe

May 7th, 2008 at 10:10 pm by Christophe
The next part of the Junior Tournament Report talks about the two Lithuanian teams of Lietuvos Rytas and Zalgiris Kaunas. Both were very different. While Lietuvos Rytas’ game was based a lot on their guards play, the Zalgiris team lived essentially from their inside guys.
