NBBL All-Star game this Saturday

January 16th, 2008 · 1 Comment

This Saturday, the NBBL All-Star game will be played in Mannheim in the SAP Arena. It will be a part of the German All-Star day. This year, the game will be a North vs. South game while last year, it was a NBBL All-Star team playing the German U20 team. Here is a short preview for the game and the selected players.

I will also be in Mannheim to follow the game live and I will do a Live Blog throughout the day. You will find the link to that Live Blog at the bottom of this post. Here is also a link to the scouting I did on last year’s edition of the NBBL All-Star game. The preview will be based on the official press release by the NBBL.

Team North

Milan Obradovic (Junior Baskets Oldenburg, Guard, 1m88, 28.07.1990)
Obradivic is the point guard of the team. He has big fighting spirit and good first step. He plays a lot on his drive and is the head of the team.

Thomas Schoeps (ALBA Berlin, Guard, 1m89, 11.01.1989)
Schoeps is the head of the North-East division leader. He is present as well as scorer and passer. He is also playing ProB with TuS Lichterfelde.

Malte Schwarz (Bramfelder SV, Guard, 1m88, 30.03.1989)
The best scorer of the team from the Hamburg area. He is a dangerous three point shooter.

Philipp Lieser (SG ASC/BG Göttingen, Guard, 1m92, 17.11.1989)
He is one of the main reasons of the good season of the team so far. 22.0ppg and 5.8rpg are his key figures.

Cornelius Adler (SG Braunschweig, Guard, 1m96, 21.01.1989)
injured and replaced by Ermen Reyes-Napoles, the PG from Jena who had already some minutes in the Bundesliga.

Philipp Schwethelm (Köln 99ers, Guard, 2m00, 01.05.1989)
The interesting prospect from Cologne that already saw some Euroleague minutes last season. He is also a regular rotation of the Bundesliga so far and is the NBBL topscorer at the moment with 24.4ppg.

Thomas Gajda (Paderborn Baskets, Guard, 2m00, 17.07.1989)
The key player for Paderborn with 23.4ppg and 9.0rpg. He is very physical and provokes a lot of difficult matchups due to this.

Azeez Oladimeji (Junior Baskets Oldenburg, Forward, 2m06, 18.07.1989)
Dominant presence under the basket where he is virtually unstoppable on this level. Huge athletic abilities which are still able to be developed.

Tibor Pleiß (Köln 99ers, Center, 2m13, 02.11.1989)
injured and will be replaced by Fabian Thülig from Telekom Baskets Bonn

Andreas Seiferth (ALBA Berlin, Forward, 2m06, 23.06.1989)
He is the big man of the team with 16.8ppg and 8.3rpg. He has not played all the NBBL games because of his important presence with TuS Lichterfelde.

Team South

Kai Barth (TV Langen, Guard, 1m85, 28.02.1989)
He is a real playmaker and the head of the top team from the Central Division. He is a pass-first Point Guard and was a member of the German U18 team last summer.

Sebastian Dietz (Basket-College Rhein-Neckar, Guard, 1m89, 22.04.1989)
Injured at the beginning of the season, he is now the team leader for his team. Good shot from outside and also interesting court vision.

Mathias Perl (BBLZ Mittelhessen, Guard, 1m88, 17.01.1989)
The defensive specialist who got elected Defensive player of the year last season. He is leading the league with 5.9spg.

Thierno Agne (Team Urspring, Forward, 2m00, 18.04.1989)
Another defensive player who is also a very important offensive factor for the actual NBBL Champion. He is seeing a lot of minutes with the ProB Team too.

Robin Benzing (TV Langen, Forward, 2m06, 25.01.1989)
Tall forward with great shooting touch from long range. He is a match up nightmare at this level because he can score inside as well as outside.

Christian Standhardinger (Team Urspring, Forward, 2m02, 04.07.1989)
MVP of last year’s edition of the NBBL Final Four. Extremely dangerous with his drives on the right side. On of the most effective players of the league who also has big impact on the ProB level.

Ruben Spoden (TV Langen, Forward, 2m04, 21.04.1989)
A very gifted athlete who has become an important piece of the Langen team. He is having impact offensively as well as defensively.

Elias Harris (BIS Speyer, Forward, 2,00 Meter, 06.07.1989)
Phantastic athletic abilities who is nearly unstoppable in one-on-one situations. MVP of last year’s edition of the All-Star game and huge impact on the ProB level.

Stefan Schmidt (Franken Hexer, Center, 2m08, 12.05.1989)
The fighter who is a very consistent contributor on the court with 14.4ppg and 8.8rpg.

Matthias Hurst (BG Karlsruhe, Forward, 2m05, 06.10.1989)
Very active inside player who is a great rebounder because of his excellent timing. He leads the league in rebounds with 17.9 boards per game.

It really looks like the Team South should win this game easily especially because of their inside power. I will cover the game live from Mannheim from about 16h.
