January 27th, 2011 · No Comments

We continue our series on European Freshmen today with an interview with the Swedish Christopher Czerapowicz. After having lead the Swedish U18 National Team to Division A in 2009, the guard/forward had a major role on the U20 team this summer that won the Silver Medal and the promotion to A Division.

Chris, why did you chose to play NCAA College Basketball?

I decided to go to the NCAA because I had heard about the great experience of playing college basketball and I wanted to be a part of the college atmosphere. Also it is good to have an education, and it’s a perfect way to combine basketball and studies at college. My dad is from the United States as well so I have a big part of my family over here, that also had an impact on my decision of coming.

How did you get recruited or noticed by the coaches of Davidson College? Did you have other options?

Our coach has good contact with a few Swedish basketball-involved people and had heard of me through them. Yes I had a other options, mostly college teams because I wanted to play college ball.

Can you explain why you did not play the first games of the season? Have you been injured?

I missed the first part of the season because I had hip surgery on both hips.

Sweden produces lots of young talented players these days and several of them have a US background. How do you see the Swedish basketball develop over the next years?

I think we have a very bright future, both men and women are doing great right now, and we have like you said a lot of young talent playing all over Europe and over here in America, so over the next years I think Sweden will improve greatly.

How do you see your development over the next 4 years in College?

I think the American style of basketball will be very good for me, I think it’s just what I need to develop, and I have a great coach and coach staff here at Davidson to help me do so as well.

What are you majoring in and why did you chose that direction?

I have not decided yet, I’m leaning towards psychology or sociology, not quite sure yet, I find both subjects interesting.

Chris Czerapowicz currently averages 4.5ppg and 1.6rpg while shooting 39.4% from the field. We wish him good luck for the rest of the season.
