Easter Weekend Tournament Recap 2015

Here is a recap of the main tournaments that have been played during the Easter weekend. The post will be updated over the next days if I get additional information on the different events. Feel free to add your comments, stats, links or videos if you have in order to complete the post.

Cholet Mondial Basket

After a good performance at the X-mas Tournament in Kortrijk, the GBA Academy Prague managed to win the 34th edition of the Cholet Mondial Basketball Tournament after beating VEF Riga in the Final. David Pekarek finished with 19 points and 10 rebounds in the final for GBA while Ervins Meznieks had 18 points and 14 rebounds. Both players are still looking for option at a D1 school for next season. For the Latvians, top-talent Rodions Kurucs was limited to only 6 points at horrible shooting (1/11 FGs). The only players in double-figures in the final was their shooter Eduards Hazniers who finished with 16 points and 7 rebounds. The third place in the event was for Stellazzurra Roma who won against Cholet this Monday afternoon. Kristinn Palsson had 12 points, 5 rebounds and 3 assists for the Italians while Andrej Maslinko finished with 10 points, 5 rebounds and 2 assists.

The All-Tournament team was composed of:

Finally, it is interesting to see that this tournament has been won by a team that was not invited to any Adidas Next Generation Tournament this season and finished in front of VEF Riga and Stella Azzurra who are both at the Final 8 in Madrid in May.

Tourcoing Mondial

Serbian won the tournament in Tourcoing by beating Denmark 85 – 76 in the Final. The third place was for Angola who overcame Russia 81 – 78. The US team finished 5th after dominating Belgium 106 – 89.

HNBT

At the Holland Nordic Basketball Tournament, CSKA Moscow finished undefeated after beating CEZ Nymburk 116-75 in the Final. The third place in the event was for the Chinese selection from Tianjin who won against the Sabonis Basketball Academy. Tunisia finished 5th after beating the Artland Dragons around Isaiah Hartenstein. The MVP trophy of the event went to Matej Svoboda from CEZ Nymburk. The Czech forward won that trophy already last year.

U16 Tournament – Pezinok

The Spanish U16 National Team won the tournament in the Slovak Republic after dominating Poland and England easily but falling to the hosts in overtime. The two Spaniards Unai Mendikote and Sergi Martínez were voted into the All-Tournament Team.

U18 Tournament – Cherbourg

Paris-Levallois won the tournament in Cherbourg by beating the Manchester Magic 86 – 85 in the Final.

JIT Lissone

In the traditional tournament in Lissone, Reyer Venezia around Leonardo Totè won in the final against team Ohio. The third place was for Torino who won against a Canadian selection.

Scania Cup

At the Scania Cup, the Norwegian team from Baerum won in the U19 category by beating Lobas from Sweden 47-35 in the Final. The best scorer for the Norwegians was the 1997 born Harald Frey who is already a very important player for the Baerum Senior team as he finished the season in Norway with 15.5ppg, 3.7rpg, 3.5apg and 2.2 spg. Their second best scorer was Drake commit Johannes Dolven.

In the U16 category, KFUM Fryshuset from Sweden won the tournament after beating Viby Basket from Denmark in the Final. Fryshuset was driven by Felix Lemetti who had 18.4 points per game in the tournament. For Viby, Anton Harbo was their topscorer. In the U15 category, the title went to Virum Vipers from Denmark who won against the Tureberg Pirates from Sweden 68 – 47 in the Final.

Massagno International Youth Tournament

Unicaja Malaga won the 12th edition of this U16 tournament by beating the Swiss National Team 68 – 56 in the Final. The third place was for a Croatian selection from Zagreb that won against Junior Basket Leoncino Mestre 60 – 57.

Torneig de Farners

At the U15 Torneig de Farners, FC Barcelona won the trophy by beating Real Madrid in the Final 66 – 58. The third place was for Joventut Badalona who defeated L’Hospitalet 56 – 46 in the Bronze Medal game.
