Denmark is the newcomer to this year’s tournament. The organizers have noticed the focused work that has been done with the youth national teams throughout the latest years, by handing this tiny basketball nation a spot on the tournament.
The team is a bit untraditionally built around players from one club team. Vaerlose BBK, who earlier in the year participated in the NIJT in Kaunas and showed good form there. 6 players have found their way to the national team roster. Almost two years ago this team was the first team ever in Denmark to play in the A division for a European Championship. Edging Greece at that event, and then later on loosing a three way tie in the group stage send the team to the relegation games, where they did not survive. Now the team is back to show that they can compete.
Denmark has one international top prospect in this generation. Rasmus Glarbjerg Larsen(6´11”, 1994) stands tall among his team mates. Having developed tremendously through the last two years this player has a bright future. A very mobile and technically very well rounded power forward with great court vision, Larsen can finish inside as well as outside. He has unfortunately suffered from a groin injury since December, and is still not 100%. Having gained more than 10 kilos muscles this season Larsen is well on the way of turning his body into an international frame.
The guard Peter Moeller(6´2”, 1994) showed great form in last summers U18 division B competition where he was an important part of the puzzle when the 1993/1994 team gained promotion for the A division for the second time. Moeller was also the tournament top scorer in his club team’s performance in the NIJT. This guard is in the transformation from SG to PG and is still maturing into this. Moeller has a great midrange game, with a very high quality of the dribble jumper.
Other players that are expected to make an impact on the team are guards David Knudsen and Anders Skou, Forward Rasmus Stolbjerg Hansen and center Jacob Enevold Jensen.
