June 18th, 2008 · No Comments

Today started the Final part of the Spanish Sub 20 Circuit. This event is always a very interesting tournament to see many of the top European youngsters as the Spanish teams feature some of the most promising prospects in Europe.

8 teams have qualified for this Final phase which are divided into two groups. Group 1 features AXA FC Barcelona, Unicaja Malaga, DKV Joventut and CB Granada. Group 2 is composed of Cajasol, Akasvayu Girona, MMT Estudiantes and Real Madrid. As I am not present in Spain for this Final phase, I will just go over the statistics of the first day and tell you who are the main players that are present.

For DKV Joventut, we see a lot of talented players like Henk Norel, Pere Tomas, Xavi Forcada, Joan Tomas, Alexander Andreev or Josep Franch. But it was not enough to beat the team of Unicaja Malaga and a great performance of Vitor Faverani who scored 23 points and grabbed 13 rebounds. Unicaja scored 15 three pointers in the game, at a percentage of 48% which was probably the key of the game.

The second game of the day saw the domination of FC Barcelona against CB Granada. Barcelona features a high number of prospects as we could see already during the Nike International Junior Tournament in Madrid where only the 1990 born generation was present. Additionally, their team features guys like Mamadou Samb or Albert Moncasi.

Cajasol won against Girona behind the incredible effort of Michel Diouf who scored 25pts (10/12) and grabbed 13 rebounds while adding 4 blocks. Fulgencio Casanova supported him with 17 points and 8 rebounds. Girona saw its best players in Mbaran Omori and Marti Serra.

The last game of the day was the clash between Estudiantes and Real Madrid. Real won it shortly with only 5 points. Estudiantes was led by Yannick Driesen and Jayson Granger. The Belgian big guy scored 20 points while Granger came up with 14 and 11 assists. For Real Pablo Aguilar and Richard Nguema who both saw already minutes with the professional are the leaders with 19pts respective 12pts.
