Copa del Rey quarter-final impressions

This weekend is played the highly regarded Spanish Copa del Rey regrouping the top teams of the ACB League in a direct elimination setting in order to win the Cup of the King of Spain. This event is seen as one of the most important events in Spanish basketball and winning a Copa is a highlight in a Basketball career. The number of immediate NBA prospects was limited though this year but there were several players on the line that can be considered as potential future top stars in European Basketball.

NIJT FMP Tournament Day 2 (live from Belgrade)

Waking up this morning was quite a shock as overnight fell about 20cm-30cm of snow. The city looked a bit paralyzed and this sudden weather change had also an impact on the schedule of my day as we initially planned to attend OKK Belgrade versus Mega Vizura in Pionir Arena. But the long drive throughout the city was probably to difficult so we cut this out of the program.

After having arrived on Thursday in the capital of Serbia, we had to get up early today after a night of Serbian folk music to check out the games of this year’s edition of the FMP City of Belgrade Basketball tournament. The tournament is one of the 4 qualifiers for the Nike International Junior Tournament Final in Paris.

BallSide: a new tool for Coaches and Scouts

Today, I want to present a truly innovating service to follow Youth Basketball in Europe. A German development team has created BallSide, a basketball team and statistics community and management website dedicated in particular to Youth Basketball. The goal of BallSide is the publication of statistics normally not available to the mass media as they don’t follow smaller leagues or youth championships.

Generation Ranking: 1993 born players

What counted for the 1992 generation is also valid for the 1993 born players. Because of the limited number of times I could scout these players, the Ranking will only feature 15 teams. This generation will play the U17 World Championship this summer in Hambourg (Germany).

Generation Ranking: 1992 born players

The 1992 generation has a lot of very talented players, especially on the inside positions. Lithuania is clearly the strongest country here though, so it is not a big surprise to see the Baltics organize the U18 European Championship this summer. Beforehand, several nations will already compete in the highly regarded Albert Schweitzer Tournament in April. Because of the limited number of players and nations I could scout of this age group so far, I limit the ranking to a Top 15.
