Easter Tournament Review 2014

The Easter weekend is normally packed with different youth tournaments throughout Europe. We take a quick review of the main events next to the Albert Schweitzer Tournament that is still ongoing.

The International Tournament in Lissone in the U19 category has been won by “Team Ohio” coming from the United States. They won against Junior Casale in the Final driven by the MVP of the tournament, future Northwestern player Gavin Skelly. Mens Sana Siena won the game for the third place 84-52 against Stella Azzurra Roma. Here is the website with all the results and the individual trophy winners. However, there are no names yet linked to these trophies as of now.

In the Netherlands, the team from CEZ Nymburk has won the Holland Nordic Basketball tournament by beating KK Jance Ljubljana in the final. The third place went to the Gas Terra Flames as they beat Jugla Riga in the Bronze Medal game. The Sabonis Basketball Academy finished 5th while Pallacanestro Reggiana was 6th in the end. Last place went to Eisbären Bremerhaven who lost against CSKA Moscow. The MVP of the tournament was for Matej Svoboda from CEZ Nymburk and he also won the trophy as best defensive player and the Dunk contest. Matej Kavas from Ljubljana won the trophy as Best Offensive player.

The Cholet Mondial Basketball tournament has been won by Besiktas Istanbul as they managed to beat Nantes in the Final. The third place was for Cholet and San Josep Badalona finished on the 4th place.  Enes Taskiran was the top scorer of the event with 16 points per game and he also won the MVP trophy of the Finals. Earvine Bassoumba from Le Mans got the trophy as best rebounder while Kilian Incredule won the trophy for best passer and the three-point contest.

Unicaja Malaga won the 2014 edition of the U16 tournament in Massagno by beating Cernusco Milan in the final 73-70 after overtime. The third place was for Khimki Moscow and Krka Novo Mesto finished fourth. The next places in the ranking were for Virtus Roma, Zagreb, Swiss U16 National Team, Unelco Tenerife, Ticino and Massagno. The top scorer of the event was Gleb Suvorov from Khimki who was followed in the ranking by Michele Antelli and Tommaso Franco, both from Milano. The U14 event has been dominated by Zagreb who overcame Vacallo in the final 90-58. The top scorer in the U14 category has been Luka Samanic from Zagreb.
